The series Dragon Ball was started in 1984, the sparkling product of artisan Akira Toriyama. After making the instant hit, "Dr. Slump," Toriyama started to consider about other plots for a new manga series. He started with an idea, "Dragon Boy," a brief, mini series comic that came into view in a weekly Japanese-manga publication which motivated him to release Dragon Ball later on.
Based on the ancient Chinese story, "Pilgramage to the West"--or "Journey to the West"--[a fable containing the Monkey King (Son-Wu-Kong) and his challenging experiences with his friends Piggy (Zhu-ba-jie), Tripitika (Hsuang-shen) and Sandy (another follower)], Dragon Ball was at last released-anouncing a fiction of a small boy with a monkey tail named Son Goku and his experiences with the purpose of gaining the mythical Dragon Balls. Legend has it that he was rescued by a loving old man named Gohan, after coming down to earth in a capsule from who knows where (the story reveals his true birthplace in Dragon Ball Z).
Along the way, young Goku meets with some life-long companions which aid him to locate the priceless dragon balls---such as Bulma (Bloomers in Japanese) a lively young girl loyal to locating them and armed with high-tech machinery. Wulong (a sort of tea), or Oolong in English, a whiny and tricky pig with the capability to shapeshift and stay in the form for 5 minutes. Yamcha- a desert rebel thief and warrior with an attitude and a fear of girls, and his comrade kitty, (kaos) I forgot what his name was in English (sorry), whom also has a capability to shapeshift but can stay in the shape up to 2 hours. Master Roshi (Kame-senin in Japanese) the wise old mentor of Goku and other warriors, with a perfected martian art known as "Kame-senin style" which he passes to all of his students (He is also a very perverted man). And, of course, last but not least, Krillin- a ex-monk(if there is a such word) who makes friends with Goku at an early age where they become good friends for the entire series. The "Pilaf Series" is the first placement of Dragon Ball, followed by the "Red Ribbon Series" and then the "Piccolo series."
The series goes on up 'til Goku grows into a young man, where he has plenty of experience in the famous Tenkaichi-Budokai tournaments.
This is where the turning point of the series taks place and he fights Piccolo Daimaou (an impressive foe that Goku ends up in large battles with) and barely defeats him. Then, before Goku kills him, Piccolo Daimaou spits out an egg which contains the Piccolo we know and love today. The "demon" Piccolo is killed and our Piccolo hatches out of the egg. This Piccolo succeeds to stay on the Earth for quite some while. Dragon Ball Z initiates shortly after as a television show, but the manga series goes on from there, still under the name "Dragon Ball."
*I will start on writing the description of Dragon Ball Z and put it here. Check back often to see if it is up.*
